**UPDATED** With the degradation of Megavideo, Veoh, etc… I’ve revisited the streaming media situation check my latest article for a new alternative to Stage6 and the links below.

Today I am foregoing the normal Tech News in favor of a tribute to Stage6. The high quality streaming video site started by the folks at DivX was a cornucopia of independent videos on politics and religion as well as a place to find movies both current and classic. Their high quality streams were downright awesome. Unfortunately due to bandwidth cost and, I’m sure, potential legal issues they have discontinued the site. So now, a moment of silence for Stage6.

Now that we’ve had our moment of silence, here is a list of alternative video streaming sites to hit up for you video fix, starting with my new personal favorite.

Some of these are streaming television, some of them are completely user generated videos. Some of them are foreign movies, some of them are a complete mix. Tudou has a TON of videos on it, but it’s almost entirely in chinese and very difficult to navigate even if you can manage to turn the text to english. QuickSilverScreen is a great place for all kinds of movies, but the links can be hard to find sometimes. Google Video, Youtube, and DailyMotion have a lot more user generated content on them if you’re looking for random videos of hilarity those are the places to browse through. Real Clear Politics is a great repository for political videos of all kinds.

If this doesn’t slake your thirst for online videos then I don’t know what will…

UPDATE: NewStage6 is scheduled to launch in 28 days. I’ll be keeping my eye on it to see how it turns out.
