Filed Under (default gmail, helpdesk, myspace imposter) by TheEmperor

The Princess of Jennzikstan writes to us with the following concerns:

I have two problems. One, I have a gmail address and whenever I click
a mail to link, it brings up my outlook and I don’t have my outlook
set up to go to my gmail. How do I do that?
Two, I have a myspace page that was put up for me a long time ago. A
friend of mine set it up with the intent to “help out”. Unfortunately
the page looks awful and since then the friend and I have had a
falling out and I can’t go through her email to take down the page.
What do I do?

Well M’lady, fear not. These issues are easily remedied.

The first issue is in fact a breeze. Our friends over at Lifehacker have already solved the issue and instead of re-inventing the wheel I will simply direct you to their solution. It is elegant and simple. As all of the best solutions are.

Now on to the second and more complicated issue.  If someone has used your copyrighted material, your likeness, your business trademark, or is impersonating you on MySpace or Facebook there are a couple of ways to approach it. Both sites have copyright protection procedures that you can use to request material be removed. I contacted MySpace about this issue and received the following reply:

In order to resolve this issue we need proof of business ownership. Please provide us with proof that you own the business in question, either by replying from your business domain email address or providing legal documentation of ownership (such as a business license, etc..), which can be emailed as an attachment to help@support.myspace.com or faxed to (310) 861-0731.  When sending proof of ownership please also include the MySpace web address/URL for the profile, state your claim that it was your business that originally created the MySpace profile, or your claim that the profile in question is an imposter.  Please also be sure to include your return email address so we can contact you with any questions or concerns.

Once we receive proof of business ownership, along with the other required information, we can begin investigating this matter further to determine the rightful owner of the account. If you are contacting us because you have forgotten the email address or password to sign in, or if your MySpace account has been compromised, we will update your information after we have received all the required information listed above.  If you contacted us because you believe there is an imposter profile who is claiming to be your business, we will take the necessary action after we have researched the matter further.

If you have any further questions or if this does not fully address your question, please reply to this email and keep the subject line intact.

This seems reasonable and straight forward and I hope it resolves your issues, M’lady.
