I scream this in incoherent rage every time I attempt to delete some unwanted file only to be told by Windows that said file is still firmly grasped in its clammy grip. But which of the many tentacles has my file clutched amidst its oily suction cups? Read on for the answers revealed!

There are several ways to discover the answer to this query, including downloading Process Explorer from Microsoft and delving through the reams of information it produces to determine the answer. A simpler method is to use a tiny and straightforward tool called “WhoLockMe?“.
Using WhoLockMe? is pretty straightforward, download it, unzip it, double click on install. Now go find the file you want to delete, right click on it, and click “WhoLockMe?” on the context menu. TADA! Quick and easy answer.

Of course, if nothing has the file locked, then WhoLockMe does nothing, which is a bit annoying. Other than that one quibble it’s a simple, and useful little tool for your toolbox. Enjoy!
