With the demise of Stage6 and the changes to Megavideo that severely limit content availability I frequently get asked, “My Liege, how is it that I might watch television on my pc with the greatest of ease?” I generally have the impudent questioner beheaded, but this time I will make an exception.

If you are willing to wait for new episodes to become available, prefer to watch the episodes whenever you choose, and have no need to watch live television then Hulu is the place for you. They have partnering agreements with dozens of television stations and movie studios which gives them a pretty wide array of available programming. The down sides are that the episodes are usually on some kind of delay from their original air date, they only have a set number of episodes available for each show, and of course no live sporting events.
Most major networks such as CBS, NBC, and ABC have some kind of video library available, but they suffer from the same problem that hulu does.

On the opposite side of the spectrum is SatelliteDirect which advertises itself as a relatively cheap service (50$ one time fee) that gives access to around 4000 live television channels from around the world, including 700+ from the USA. This is a complete lie and a waste of money. The channels are links to free internet feeds of the channels they list, and many of the channels they claim to have they don’t. If you’ve been looking at this software DON’T BUY IT. It does not work as advertised and they have a reputation for refusing to refund your money if you are unsatisfied.

TVU and JustinTV are still your best options for streaming live television online. Both of them have fairly good channel guides you can use to locate whatever you are interested in and both carry a decent range of live sporting events.

Until someone enterprising website makes the advertising model truly work for free, live, streaming television we’re unlikely to see any solutions better than those listed above. So, happy viewing and watch out for scams.
