Ok, a few months ago when Stage6 regrettably closed its doors I did a write up on some of the best places on the net to find free TV and Movies. Since then many changes in places like Veoh and Megavideo have resulted in the quality of my favorites sites plummeting. This has forced me, much to my annoyance, to go searching for a new source for my television needs.
My searching eventually led me to a piece of software called Graboid. I’m generally skeptical about software that makes the kinds of promises that Graboid does, but they seem to be living up to it. The videos are crystal clear, CRYSTAL clear. They have HD content for crying out loud! And tons of it. They have new episodes pretty much the day after they air and new movies pretty quickly as well.
The downside to the free version is that you have a 4gb monthly cap, which does suck a little bit, but for me it’s enough to watch the 2-3 shows I watch. The monthly fees range from 5$/month for 10gb up to 30$/month for 500gb.
As an example file size I just watched a 1 hour episode of The Ultimate Fighter which was about a 400mb file, which was crystal clear with no buffering after the first 2 minutes or so. I might conceivably want the 5$ membership at some point. But I doubt I’ll need it.
Graboid definitely gets Tech Empire approval both for their free service and for the paid service. The prices are very very reasonable, the content is massive and crystal clear, and the interface is slick and easy to use. Check it out over at Graboid.com.
So the last week I’ve run across quite a few interesting websites that offer ways to make money online via clicking on ads for a penny at a time, and then giving you another penny or so whenever one of your referrals clicks on one. I figure, what the heck, I spend a lot of time sitting around on my laptop. I have time to click on a few dozen ads a day for a couple bucks. So without further fanfare, here’s a list of the sites I’ve found for this: Dailyclicks, MySearchFunds, Bux.To, SmoothLinks, SebasBux, and WordLinx. To go with these silly money making sites I found a classic pyramid scheme traffic building site as well. It’s the old list method, you sign up by clicking on every link on a page to get a little code then your website gets put at the top of the list. The idea is that you refer 10 people, each one refers 10 people, etc… etc.. and by the time it’s over you have 1 million hits to your website. Check it out at FreeViral. And now to make up for all of these ridiculous sites I give you SurfTheChannel, the best online TV site I’ve found yet. Very well organized HUNDREDS of shows and movies, full seasons of almost everything and movies the DAY OF release. This site is awesome. And that’s been your Monday Morning Link Blast ( a little late but worth the wait) for Monday, March 17th.
**UPDATED** With the degradation of Megavideo, Veoh, etc… I’ve revisited the streaming media situation check my latest article for a new alternative to Stage6 and the links below.
Today I am foregoing the normal Tech News in favor of a tribute to Stage6. The high quality streaming video site started by the folks at DivX was a cornucopia of independent videos on politics and religion as well as a place to find movies both current and classic. Their high quality streams were downright awesome. Unfortunately due to bandwidth cost and, I’m sure, potential legal issues they have discontinued the site. So now, a moment of silence for Stage6.
